Information Gathered in the EMU Process

Blog article written and provided by Christopher and Keith Elton.

All cases of Epilepsy are unique and we’re living proof. We’re twins and our Epilepsy didn’t manifest itself until we were adults. Christopher had his first seizure at age 19 and Keith at 21! We have an extensive family tree but no history of Epilepsy.

The Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) allows your neurological team to record audio and video of your seizures, as well as the Electroencephalogram (EEG) readings necessary to diagnose your case properly. It can be very intimidating knowing they’re going to induce seizures.

However, there is no staff better equipped to assist you in getting you through your seizures safely!

We’ve learned through our EMU admissions, our seizures originate in different areas. Christopher’s seizures come from his right temporal lobe. Keith’s originate near his right hippocampus.

Keith had surgery which reduced the severity and frequency of his seizures. Chris had surgery and is now seizure free! Our success would never have occured without the information gathered during the EMU process.

This can happen for you! May God Bless you in your journey to becoming seizure free.
